  • Full Itinerary

    Day 1 -

Oct 12th, Fly Day - San Diego CBX to Loreto

We will meet in San Diego at the Cross Border Express (CBX) border crossing. We are scheduled to fly out that morning (Commercial Airline). Flight time is about one hour to Loreto. The airline tickets for 2 people are included in the price of the trip. We meet up at CBX Crossing (2745 Otay Pacific Drive, San Diego, CA 92154) and fly down to Loreto as a group. Once we arrive in Loreto, we shuttle over to the Loreto Bay Hotel and meet the Chase Truck guys. The UTVs will be there, and we need to get everything ready for an early departure the next day. Once we prep the UTVs, we'll have a drivers’ meeting and drinks by the pool.

    Day 2

Oct 13th,  Fishing in Loreto BCS

Departing at 8 am after a hearty breakfast, we will hit the open waters of the Sea of Cortez; depending on the size of the group we take, we night man two vessels or more. We will be using an experienced fishing charter, so having some local knowledge will almost ensure an amazing fishing day. Caught fish is available for vacuum packing and can be kept on ice if desired. To end our day we will enjoy dinner and stories of the days catch.

    Day 3

Oct 14th, Loreto to Scorpion Bay

The route will go through washes of Loreto and up into the mountainous Canyons of Loreto, and our first stop will be "Mission San Javier," one of the most prestigious missions in Baja ( info). The road to the Mission San Javier is paved but offers it's own element of fun with tight, twisty corners and epic mountain landscapes. a spectacular tropical canyon that will cross us from the Cortez back to the Pacific. This rolling mountainside will take us though several canyons and water crossings and alongside creek beds. From the rainforest-style trees to the canyon floors, the sights along this pass are what Baja is all about. Although not the fastest peninsula crossing, it is definitely one of the most beautiful. We end in San Juanico aka Scorpion Bay and grab a late lunch and have time to see the beautiful town. If surfing is your passion, this is the place.

San Juanico, better known as Scorpion Bay, is a small fishing village on the Pacific side of the peninsula that has become a classic Baja surf spot. There are multiple point breaks that bring epic surf when the conditions are right. When a big south swell hits, the waves break at four points and rides can last for over a minute. Small swells are great for beginner surfers while bigger ones require a little more experience.

    Day 4

Oct 15th, Scorpion Bay Party Day

Breakfast while watching the point break in Scorpion Bay... not a bad way to start your day! We all know everyone loves to ride on the beach. Well, today is your day... Leaving San Juanico, we start on the beach and drive south with the Pacific Ocean on our right side. This almost endless hard-packed beach drive is gorgeous. Pictures and video for sure - because once you tell your friends, they won't believe you. As the beach drive ends, we exit at the Punta San Gregorio point and take the sand hill up and over the sand car racetrack to Las Barrancas. We'll hit the beach down to Agua Del Coyote for lunch, safari style, and yet another long beach ride. We'll see the Chase Trucks for gas today for a quick top-off, then back into the thick of it as we run the high-speed mangroves of Santa Domingo and the Isla Magdalena.

San Carlos Sur is our destination for night. Located just feet from the water's edge, this amazing destination is everyone's favorite. From the first-class location to the amazing food and atmosphere, San Carlos won't disappoint.

    Day 5

Oct 16th Scorpion Bay to LaPaz

We leave San Carlos teary-eyed but yet still filled with anticipation as to what lays ahead on day 5. The trails from San Carlos to La Paz are by far the fastest and most fun in Baja. High speed is a YES! on these trails. Tons of whoops, but none big enough to throw you out of rhythm, allowing you to maximize your UTV's full potential, taking on over 200 miles of never-ending trails. Although not directly on the beach sand, the hard-packed dirt is lightly covered with a soft layer of sand, making for some amazing trails, drifting corners and endless Pacific ocean sights to see. We meet up to get gas from the three Chase Trucks and enjoy lunch safari style again. Depending on time and how the day is going, we have a few different routes into La Paz. We'll cross over the peninsula once again from the Pacific to the Cortez and into La Paz for the night.

    Day 6

Oct 17th La Paz Yacht party day

Leaving La Paz and driving south down toward La Vantana, we'll take a slight detour and head over to Los Suenos for brunch Baja style - epic food and drinks and non-stop laughter as we tell stories from the last 6 days. Los Suenos is an amazing place to visit. Great food, drinks, and people make for the perfect stories.

The day is not over. With still over 50 miles to drive, we go down the east cape on a sight-seeing adventure. We will definitely make time for a few stops to jump into the ocean. The soft gloomy, trails make for an awesome ride. We'll pull into the Hotel Playa del Sol for the night.

    Day 7

Oct 18th LaPaz to Cabo/Ceriotts Beach

Our last day - but still plenty of miles to drive and sights to see. Leaving El Cordona and driving south down toward Cabo, we'll take East Cape through Buenavista and Los Barriles before heading into to the mountains of Cabo Pulmo. This epic mountain drive will leave you in awe, as we drift the fun fast rollercoaster trails over to the middle of the peninsula where our off-road trail will end and turn into a 35-mile HWY drive to the Pacific side of Cabo.

With extensive planning, these tours are designed for you to just show up and enjoy yourself. Leave all the stressful logistics and planning to us! Baja Sur is simply the most amazing adventure available.

  • Requirements

Our goal at Off the GRID Expeditions is to have a good time. With that said, being prepared and having the right tools/equipment can make everyone’s day much more enjoyable!

Stock UTV’s are very capable and impressive machines… they are also a lot of fun to customize! Although heavy  modification isn’t necessary, there are basic items that you must have when going on a OFF the GRID run.

Here’s a list of required items for our Expeditions:

(Note: some expeditions might require more items, based on specific trail or location needs. See Run descriptions for more  details.)

    • UTV prep is a must prior to any run. If one vehicle has a problem, we all have a problem.

    • All services done on vehicle. (oil change, air cleaner, brakes, nut and bolt )

    • All tires aired to proper pressure. ( 1 Spare in required on vehicle)

    • All equipment and parts securely tied down in UTV.

    • Full Fuel Tank. (Spare gas can be carried but must be safe and secure on UTV )

    • Tools, Jack and tow strap securely fastened in UTV.

    • Helmet with wired speakers for Intercom system. Yes helmets are 100% mandatory.

    • Radio - Mounted VHF radio,  with weatherman programmed frequency 151.625 (see below)

    • Intercom - We highly recommend a wired intercom so you can clearly hear the radio and can easily transmit on the radio while driving. (see below)

    • GPS - Lowrance GPS Unit only- No exceptions (We provide the GPS file the morning of the expedition) (see below)

    • Drivers licence - Vehicle Registration - Insurance

    • Off Road lights - Some good light so you are comfortable driving at night. LED lights are recommended.

    • Mexican Auto Insurance for you're UTV www.bajabound.com   No you're USA insurance wont work in Baja

    • So why do we need a GPS?

The GPS is your life line when navigating these technical trails of Baja. Every turn has a surprise and without a well planned trail you would be lost in minutes. The GPS not only displays your exact route but it is also use for milage calculations for turns or and potential hazards as well as waypoints

    • Communication is key..

We use a VHF 55w radio with a preprogrammed channel to communicate from Utv to Utv. The operating channel  is weather man (151.625) please make sure you have this preprogrammed into you're unit. All communication systems must wired into push to talk intercom system to your helmet. The VHF radios allow us to call out any potential hazards, milage, and just general communication amongst the group. Example ( Hazard mile 45.2 on right or "hey dude with the blue Can-Am you have a strap hanging under your UTV" )

    • Why because they save lives ......

Helmets are mandatory no questions asked. I know some ride with only head sets but with Off the GRID Expeditions you need to wear one. Goggles or full face shield as well !!!! You only have one head on your shoulders so use it wisely and protect it....
